As long as the individual is reasonably healthy, diving is possible. In fact many divers I see are what I would class as being overweight. I myself have dived for 10 years and have a middle age beer belly. If you are very large, it may be difficult to find equipment that will fit. Also you have to consider if you got into trouble, would anyone be able to pull you out of the water onto the beach or onto a boat? If you are in doubt, see a doctor for a basic medical.
