Yes.
It is the sport of parachuting, also known as skydiving.
We call it "skydiving". Actually the term skydiving was coined in the 1950s and came into popular use in the 1970s and 1980s. Up until that time what we do was most commonly referred to as "sport parachuting."
Skydiving originated around 1910 from the activity of parachuting. Parachuting was invented as a means of survival in the catastrophic failure of an early aeronatuic balloon or aircraft. Air circuses, displayer jumpers were the initial pioneers and they deployed their parachute the moment they exited the aircraft. However, in more recent times, this grew into a military activity with the advent of World War I & II. Post-war, ex-military jumpers then went onto to develop sport 'fun' parachuting and skydiving.
There is no correlation between race and skydiving fatalities. What a question to ask!
There are openings in the military that require skydiving. Also there are jobs as a stunt man (or woman), or as an instructor.
There are three places to skydive in India. There is the Parachuting Association of India in Pant Nagar, the Indian Parachuting Federation in New Delhi, and Indradahanush agni aero sports in Bangalore.
Parachuting is a part of skydiving and most people do a Tandem Skydiving Course for their first jump. This costs around £240 in the UK. The highest altitude of 15000ft can be found at Skydive Hibaldstow which is near to Leeds, Sheffield and Hull. This gives you a freefall time of around a minute and is a great introduction to the sport.

At least one parachute... sport parachuting requires 2 parachutes, a main and a reserve. Other suggested equipement are a helmet, altimeter and jumpsuit.
Skydiving became a sport over 50 years ago once competitions came into being. The first parachuting competitions were run around the 1950's and were accuracy based. When freefall skydiving began, there were even low pull contests, but fortunately these no longer exist. Today there are World Championships in formation skydiving, freefly, vertical formation skydiving, etc. There are professional teams, competitors, judges and scoring systems. In fact the first World Parachuting Championships took place in 1951 and were held in Yugoslavia. Sadly skydiving has not made it to the same leagues as golf or footable as a spectator sport, however it is a popular one with many thousands of regular jumpers around the world. The starting step to becoming a competitor is to take a basic course such as AFF (Accelerated Freefall). A good place to do this is Skydive Hibaldstow which also hosts the UK National Championships every year. After completing your course, you will make friends and learn how to skydive with them, hiring coaches and entering the low ranked competitions.

Static line parachuting takes place from around 4000ft. As you fall from the aircraft, the parachute opens automatically. To go skydiving (i.e. freefalling through the sky with a packed parachute on your back), you typically jump from between 10,000ft to 15,000ft. You can get up to 1 minute in freefall, or significantly longer with a wingsuit.
