What are some examples of the different types of bows used in archery?

There aren't many types of bows, however there are many custom made bows which highly differ from the standard modern bows. The most common types are Short Bows and Long Bows as well as Cross Bows. The strongest ones of course are Cross Bows, as these are powered automatically, whereas in the other two you have to physically pull the arrow.

What is the recurve bow definition and how does it differ from other types of bows?

A recurve bow is a type of bow with limbs that curve away from the archer when unstrung, which gives it more power and speed compared to traditional straight-limbed bows. This design allows the recurve bow to store and release more energy, making it more efficient and powerful than other types of bows.

What are different names for bows or styles of bows?

There are presently seven kinds of bows I have any knowledge of: Self Bows are simply a long piece of supple wood that is drawn into a bow shape with a bit of cord. These are generally hand-made and simple to make. Straight Bows are long pieces of manufactured materials, usually pretty straight, that is drawn into a bow shape with a bit of cord. You can find these as kids toys. Reflex bows are generally made of wood and, when unstrung, curve away from the holder of the bow from the handle. They tend to provide a lot of long-range power. Recurve bows are generally made out of manufactured materials or laminated wood and get confused with Reflex bows. They only curve away from the holder at the tips, however, not from the handle. These are what they usually use at the Olympics. Longbows are similar to Self Bows but much longer (taller than a man) and also simple to make. Composite Bows are made of layers of multiple materials pasted together into the shape of a bow, but it is usually more flat than most other types of bows. Compound Bows are similar in shape to a composite bow, but have pulleys and other fancy doo-dads that increase the power of the bow. Most of these are made of metal these days and used by sports hunters.
