According to the Yankees schedule they seem to play most teams at least 3 days running. As a new comer to baseball why is this?

Major League Baseball schedules 2 series (successive games between two teams) in a week's time. This would mean that, being seven days in a week, most series will be three or four games in length, depending on whether a team will get a day off in between series. Days off occur between Monday and Thursday. Every team plays on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday unless the game is rained out. Occasionally, teams play two games series and sometimes five game series if a game has been rained out earlier in the season and they need to make it up. Playing three or four games in a series cuts down on the amount of travel teams need to make, and obviously, saves money in travel expenses.
