You usually hold it flat in your hand, with the tips or your fingers slightly curved around the edge. Your palm should (depending on the size of your hand) be around the center of the discus. You hold it mildly stretching your fingers apart, and your release should consist of squeezing the disc from your pinky to your index finger, while throwing the disc flat, to get the most wind resistance out of the disc.
