How to prepare for tryouts depends on the team you are trying out for. Dance has a heavy impact in Cheerleading. If you don't have any dance background, there are videos you can buy that teach basic dance routines that will help you understand the counting method and rhythm. You can also find step by step routines on YouTube. Jumps are very important at tryouts. Basic jumps include toetouch, side hurdler, front hurdler, pike, and double nine. These can all be found on youtube also. A proper approach is the key to success. Stretch and condition! Flexibility is huge! Going to a weight room helps a ton, especially in stunting. Tumbling lessons have become a huge part of cheerleading. A backhandspring is usually a key requirement to making a Varsity Squad.

you just tryout and you'll always make even if ur not on the team u hope. but you really have to work hard with tumbling, flexibility, and strength. in allstar cheerleading tumbling is the important thing in allstar cheerleading.it is complicated if you don't focus. i just joined an allstar team in April and im telling you from my experience so far that it is very important to stay focus. Just remember for the first days stay on ur coaches good side, make friend and hopefully everybodys nice just remember to always do ur best and stay on task

1.) Look like a cheerleader - This will make a big difference on your appearance score. Wear a school shirt, bow in your hair, subtle make-up, NO jewelry, cheer shoes, cheer shorts, and add a fake tatoo on your cheek. Girls who don't work on their appearance tend to blend into the group rather than stand out.

2.) Smile - Smile when you run in, smile when you are standing there, smile when you are stunting, and smile when you are cheering. This will make you more approachable as well as make you look more like a cheerleader. Girls that don't smile just look like they DON'T want to be there, and can get scored accordingly.

3.) Hit the crowd - Hit the crowd by saying things like, "GO team!" when you run onto the floor, when you finish a cheer/chant, and even when you stunt. Many girls just stand there afterwards and by adding this you will definitely get the judges attention.

4.) Be heard - Make sure the judges can hear what you are saying as well as be heard over the other girls. Many girls are so quiet and get deducted points for this. (Please don't shout the words!)

5.) Posture - Make sure your head/chest are up when you stand there, and that you are standing at attention when you are done with a skill. This shows confidence, and will get you noticed compared to the many girls who tend to sloutch and/or cross their legs when they are nervouse.

All types of streches are good for warming up to cheer. You could also try running and doing a few tuck jumps.

Practice gymnastics if you know gymnastics like cartwheels, back flips, front flips,

etc. Take tumbling lessons at a local cheerleading gym. Practice dancing, motions and facials
