The suit you are referring to is the Varia Suit. You get it by defeating Flahhgara, the plant boss in the Chozo Ruins. This suit will allow you to go into high-heat areas without taking damage. This is the closest you will get to becoming fireproof, though lava and fire-based attacks will still damage you.
The only way you could float inside of a volcano (lava) which was if you had a lava proof rock or anything lava proof and you would have to wear a cool suit (it would be made out of ice packs) on. You would have to have a lot of protection but don't ever do it unless it's legally being done be safe ;)
