It depends on where you live. In Colorado there are several small relatively inexpensive ski areas like Ski Cooper, Monarch, and Sol Vista. They offer nice recreational skiing for a reasonable price. However, for me the best value is Loveland Ski area near Georgetown, CO. It has a wide variety of terrain from beginner to expert, good services and they really try to make skiing affordable. You can get discounts through the Entertainment books, local stores, and the Colorado GEMS card. They also offer free parking and a hamburger for less than a 5 Star restaurant charges for a fillet. Something unknown at major resorts.

The really coolest place there is Mount Washington where there is cross-country and downhill skiing.
There are not many places to go skiing in April, so I recommend you go far to the north, either Norway or Sweden, but I recommend Norway since there are more and higher mountains there, which means longer winters.

The best and cheapest place to purchase a ceiling fan is Wal-Mart. They are cheap cost wise but they do seem to last. If you want an outdoor ceiling fan, go with your local hardware store such as Lowes or Home Depot.
In terms of skiing vacations there are a ton of options and the best option for you will definitely depend upon your location. The U.S. has some great skiing and you just need to decide if you would like to go east or west. In the west the place to be is Colorado with hug resorts like Vail and Boulder. In the Northeast your best bet will likely be Vermont with resorts like Killington and Stowe. All of these locations offer the best in skiing and shopping
