You can be any age, as you will be playing (if you choose to do so) against people of a similar age range. Most regions have tournaments at friendly level starting at Under 10, with Masters hockey accommodating the 50+ ages.

you can play all year round on an indoor rink and from December to march provided it is cold enough for the out door rink to freeze
