Slicing doesn't ring a bell...are you talking about "icing" the puck? When a team has the puck in their own zone and sends it the length of the ice, past the other team's goal line and the other team is the first to touch it, it is called "icing". Play is stopped and returned to the first team's zone. It was designed to stop teams from simply getting rid of the puck to kill the clock. It doesn't apply when a team is serving a penalty.
