You can ski year -round in the USA if you are willing to hike and "earn your turns." If you are referring to lift-served skiing on groomed trails, Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood, OR provides lift served skiing right up to Labor Day. They close in September, but not because of lack of snow, but rather a lack of skiers. It also give them an opportunity to perform certain maintenance tasks that are usually done in the off-season. Other areas offer late season skiing into early summer. Arapahoe Basin in Colorado has been known to remain open until July 4th, and Mt. Bailey snowcat skiing in Southern Oregon will also remain open until July following winters with deep snow. In the eastern USA, hike-to terrain on Mt. Washington, NH usually permits skiing well into June, and some hardy souls have made turns on ice that has lingered into July. Lift served skiing in the east is sometimes available into early May at Bretton Woods resort in NH. Skiing will soon be available year-round, indoors at the New Jersey Meadowlands Xanadu complex. Outdoor skiing is also available year-round to students at Texas A & M, who ski on a plastic slope known as "Mt. Aggie." www.skiernet.com
