in late may, June, and July the temps no longer go below freezing except perhaps a few days on the very top. so it's not rock hard in the morning but just a little soft, then turning into total slush very quickly. usually plenty of snow, but it feels like skiing/riding in a big pile of granulated sugar within 2-4 hrs from sunrise. lift hours are 8-3 but you won't have fun after 11 or 12. the current owner (hotel and Golf course company) does not like to run the mountain after Memorial Day (it's operating loss every day) so mammoth has been closing first week in June even though there is plenty of snow to ski on. the u.s. ski team has been having chair 3 running for them till mid July i think. June mountain closes usually on or before Easter.
