Nope! If you do know Ballet, it would probably be a helpful advantage but you absolutely do not have to know ballet to do figure skaitng :)
no and yes because figure skating is on ice plus they move around more ballet is on the floor but there is a lot of the same moves.
Take them ice skating or watch them do ballet.
You need the grace and point of ballet to be able to become a successful figure skater!!
The Father of Figure Skating is the nickname given to Jackson Haines who introduced ballet to the sport in the 1860s.
It's a split mix of hockey and dance (ballet specifically). Basically, girls used to do ballet, and some girls did hockey on ice. They finally created figure skating by combining the two, using the "on ice" in the hockey part, and the dancing in the ballet.
The sport that will help improve figure skating is ballet and yoga. These two sports help improve flexabilitly and balance which are both needed to be a good figure skater. :)
Ice skating anyone can really do, but figure skating you have to have the right skates and you n eed to know how to use the toe pick.

No one knows the exact history of ice skating although it is believed to have been around for hundreds of years. The first ice skating organization was formed in the 1700s and the first instructional book was written by a British miliary man named Robert Jones. An American named Jackson Haines was the first to use dance and ballet movements in a figure skating routine. This was in the mid 1800s.
