M1 Garand was the most widespread rifle in WWII, but some were also given an M1A1 Garand. Few were given automatic rifles like the BAR and Thompson
America used the M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, M1A1 Thompson, M3 "Grease Gun", Browning Automatic Rifle (B.A.R.), M1903 Springfield, M1917 Enfield, M1897 Trench Gun, M1917 Browning .30 Cal. LMG, Browning .50 Cal HMG, M1911 Colt .45, and the Bazooka (M1A1) and Variants.
m1 garand or the m1a1 carbine were the standard issue combat rifles. they were the semi automatic rifles of their time

For Range the M1Garand is better, but for close quarters and compact-ability the M1/M1A1 Carbine is better. It's the difference between cartridge's M1 garand is in 30-06, and the M1/M1A1 carbine is in 30 carbine, which is designed for close range shooting

m1 grande or m1a1 carbine
This is really a opinion question. People will give different answers. In my words america had the better choice of weapons. Some are the m1 garand, m1a1 thompson, m1 carbine, 30. cal mg, 50. cal mg, springfield, BAR(yes bar. Browning Automatic Rifle.), and the grease gun. That would be the best country with rifles, but with tanks and veicheles, now that is another story.
