I'm assuming you meant a 30.06 rifle. The most popular rifle does not guarantee that you will agree with it's status. Many people do not like the 30.06. It can be a punishing round to shoot from a rifle that isn't "customized" for you a bit. In choosing a weapon, you need to know your measurements, then compare them to the dimensions of the rifle...Go to a gun store, hold the weapon. See if it feels "right" for you. Then check the price tag, to see if it will fit into your wallet. It also matters what job you have for this rifle. You may find, with some research, that the .308 is a better match. Same bullet, slightly less velocity, very similar ballistics at close to medium ranges.
No You could build a rifle in .306" or any other caliber but you are likely referring to 30.06. A 30.06 rifle is referred to as "30 Caliber" but to be accurate it is nominally .308"
NO. There is a 30-06 rifle, but it is still a .30 cal, just like a 308 or 30-30 If there were, it would not be a rifle, it would be more like a cannon.. The caliber of a rifle, is based on size of the hole in the barrel, hence .50 cal is = half a inch. and a .30 is just slightly smaller than 1/3 of an inch. ****************** While there are .307 caliber rifles, have not seen a .306 or 306- as the previous responder noted- there IS a 30-06 (Usually pronounced thirty ought six). Yes there is. It is a 7.5X55 Swiss rifle. The surplus ammunition bullet diameter is .306.
compared to most other rifles, yes. i have been shooting for 10 years, i am used to it.
