To determine the degree of choke on a Savage 775, look toward the rear of the barrel just in front of the receiver on the left side. There you'll see some stars engraved into the barrel. The number of stars corresponds to the amount of choke of your gun's barrel. On mine, it's 3 stars which means "modified." Here are the other designations:
* = full choke
** = improved modified
*** = modified
**** = improved cylinder
***** = cylinder
Hope this helps!
BTW, the old Savage is one of the sweetest shotguns I've ever shot! Butter smooth trigger, accurate and highly reliable!! GREAT gun!
