They are not allowed because they can cause injury. If the ball were to hit one in the face, hard, the goggles could cause serious injury to the person's face. Also they could cut other players because it being a full contact sport (bumping into another and scraping them, some thing to pull on, or bash into face, etc). As goggles could be used as an advantage both because it could cut/hurt anther player, and because they could be used to pull on or to intentionally disable another player.
Prescription goggles.
A water polo goal, a shot clock, a score board, a water polo ball, and last but not least the player. Water polo swimming apparel are speedos, and a cap saying the number/team color. No goggles are worn.

Water Polo is so named because of its likeness to normal polo and the fact that it is played in water. In reality, it is more similar to Rugby but "water rugby" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
those two sports are totally different the polo is the land sport and water polo is a water sport :D
