Why is swimming a more popular sport?

What truly makes swimming so intersting is that it isn't a sport that comes easy to everyone. Like most sports, it takes hard work and practice. Many popular sports require some sort of running in order to participate, however swimming is much more than just running around a court dribbling a ball or running down a field tackling others. In this sport, a land animal is placed in the water and asked to swim. Swimming takes place in a completely different atmosphere than most sports. Most sports take place on dry land which makes them a little more ordinary and what many people are used to. Swimming takes place in the water. Swimming stands out because it is a sport where athletes strive to beat records. It is fascinating to watch athletes glide in and out of the water because they make it look so efforless. Not only are they competing to get a better time than their opponents but they are also competing against themselves. They want to beat their old record and the only obstacle in front of them is the water.
