I swim for excersise all the time. It really keeps you in shape. My husband is a scientist and studies health. His studies showed that 80% of Americans that swim for excersise at least once a week have a chance of living longer. It keeps the bones healthy but it doesn't always make you sore. It's also good for the heart. The thing that is good about swimming, especially for older people with weaker bones, is that it isn't hard on anything. Running is hard on your knees and sometimes may grind together if you're old or unhealthy. Swimming isn't like that. That is why i swim alot to keep in shape. It also used lots of muscles, so you burns lots of calories.

swimming is healthy because about 1 hour of lap swimming burns up to 1000 calories!! also it increases your heart rate.
By swimming you're using a lot of muscles, but you're not putting much strain on your joints and tendons. This means it is a very low risk sport, giving you a good workout.
Strengthens your core muscles and gets your heart pumping. Over all it is a great workout if you are actually doing laps and not just "play" swimming.
