People swim for a variety of different reasons. I'll start with the health reason. Swimming is a very good way to exercise. Unlike with some other forms of exercise, swimming works all parts of your body, giving you a good workout. Beyond this reason of health, a lot of people swim for one simple reason: its fun. Whether its splashing around at the beach or swimming laps in the pool, some people (like me) just find it super enjoyable. For me, nothing beats the experience of diving into a cool pool. Others learn to swim because they enjoy doing gymnastics and flips in the air, which diving is one form of. Diving lets you do acrobatic tricks in the air with the extra height the spring board or platform gives you. Although water can be a very hard substance, hitting the water wrong can often lead to less serious injuries than hitting the ground wrong, although it will still hurt. If you don't know how to swim, then it is unwise to be diving into a pool. Others just swim to learn how to in case of an emergency. There are many reasons to swim, but the most important is because they just enjoy doing it.
