The date of the 2016 Olympic Swimming Trials is not yet known. It will likely take place in the late winter/early spring of 2016, just as the Trials did in 2012.
The location is also not yet known. USA Swimming, based in Colorado Springs, (under the oversight of the U.S. Olympic Committee) is responsible for putting on the trials. On July 8, 2012, they announced that they had accepted bids from 16 cities to host the Trials and would decide which of the 16 they would accept in May 2013. USA Swimming declined to name the 16 bid cities, but noted that the cities might make themselves publicly known on their own. Six of the bid cities have done that:
-Greensboro, NC
-Indianapolis, IN (hosted '24, '52, '84, '92, '96, '00 & '04)
-Jacksonville, FL
-Long Beach, CA (hosted '68, '76 & '04)
-Louisville, KY
-Omaha, NB (hosted '08 & '12)
Cities that want to bid for the Trials have to have an appropriate venue with a regulation pool and large crowd capacity. In addition, USA Swimming requires that they have rights to use the venue for an entire month to allow for preparations and testing. Large cities with major, multipurpose arenas tend to find this last requirement onerous.
