The World Record for 800m is 7m 23s so extrapoliting that up gives 1km in 9m 14s.

An 'average' swimmer should be able to do 1km in 15 minutes with a good club swimmer taking around 11 minutes

i swim 2km (80- 25m lengths) in about 55 mins, but this is a fairly leisurely pace for me :)

It takes me 1:10 to swim 5k and that was when i was 13 and swimming for 2 years so probably about 15 minutes for one km
