There was a game in the Western Australian league between City Beach and Dolphins which after the initial 4 quarters went to extra time. Each extra time period was for 2 extra quarters. The game was eventually decided after 5 extra time periods resulting in 10 periods of extra time and the whole match lasting 14 periods. The game was eventually won by City Beach after approx three and three quarters of play time.

Most countries play water polo in some shape or form, ranging from national teams competing in the likes of the Olympics to school and small-time clubs just playing for fun. It would probably be easier to list the countries that do not play water polo than those that do.
