For one team: You have a centre who starts the draw in the middle of the field (in the centre circle), you have two wings on each side of the centre circle with their backs to your goal (they are attacking) and two wings on the other side of the centre circle with their backs to the opositions goal (they are defenders.) You also have one attacker standing a few metres away from the attackers on the centre circle and one defender doing the same behind the defenders on the centre circle. you then have a straight attack right near your goal and a straight defence right near the opositions goal, you also have a goalie. If you were playing with more players you would just add another attacker and another defender near the others off the centre circle. =)

Goalie, Whole (Hole) set, drivers, whole d, and wings. Goalie in the goal, whole set in the center and does the scoring, drivers at the 5 meter line and take outside shots, wings on the outside on the sides of the pool, and the whole d sticks around mid pool and defends.

Goalie: Stands in front of the goal preventing the ball from entering goal.

Midfielder: Also refereed to as a midi(MID-E), runs across the field playing defense and offense.

Attack: Primarily offensive players which remain on the opposing teams side of field.

Defense: Primary job is to stop the midfielders and attacks from scoring, also defense has a longer pole (6ft long) which is much larger then the 42in pole of the midfielder, attack, and goalies.

Long Stick Midfielder(LSM): Does what a Midfielder does but with a 6ft long pole.

Water Polo is so named because of its likeness to normal polo and the fact that it is played in water. In reality, it is more similar to Rugby but "water rugby" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
