Dives are named and categorized by numbers, directions, rotations, positions, and twists.the hundreds digit tells you the type/direction of dive:100's=front dives200's=back dives300's=reverse dives (leave board like a front dive then rotate backward)400's=inward dives (leave board like a back dive then rotate forward)500's=twisters (any direction)after the hundreds digit comes the units digit, which tells you amount of rotations the dive has:001=dive002=1 summersault (summy)003=1 1/2 summersaults (summersault into a dive)004=2 summersaults -also called a "double"005=2 1/2 summersaults (2 summersaults into a dive)006=3 summersaults -also called a "triple"etc....it goes on and on and onTwister dives are different with 4 digits instead of 3. The first digit is always a 5 (which tells you it is twisting). Then comes the hundreds digit (which tells you which direction the diver is going). After those two digits, the next two vary on amount of twists and amount of rotations (because the diver must twist and rotate at the same time). The ten's digit signifies the amount of rotaion, starting at 1 being a half twist (2=1 summersault....). The final one's digit represents the amount of twists, starting with 1 being a half twist (2=1 twist...)Example: 5121= twisting forward one summersault half twistThe final part of numbering a dive is acutally a letter which tells you what position the dive is in:a=straightb=pikec=tuckd=free (for twisting)put it all together and a 403c is an inward 1 1/2 summersault in tuck position. The combinations are endless!
