Most countries in the World will play waterpolo to deffering standards. It is most Europe (particularly in Hungary, Greece, Italy, Russia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro), the United States, Canada and Australia
Most countries play water polo in some shape or form, ranging from national teams competing in the likes of the Olympics to school and small-time clubs just playing for fun. It would probably be easier to list the countries that do not play water polo than those that do.

Water Polo is so named because of its likeness to normal polo and the fact that it is played in water. In reality, it is more similar to Rugby but "water rugby" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
