'Zapping' is a term used to refer to what is also known as 'channel surfing'. This common practice occurs whenever someone watching television rapidly changes from channel to channel in an attempt to find something that catches their eye. Channel surfing tends to occur when a favorite television show ends or when a commercial break begins.
