if you are a good skater and you do lessons and professional training like me, when you are learning jumps, spins and lifts and tricks that are generally dangerous, then it can be quite unsafe, but you will know if you are ready for what you want to do. if it is your first time on the ice then be aware that you probably will fall over. Falling over at an early stage will take a bit of getting used to , and it may hurt, but as long as when you fall, you tuck your head and arms in,its perfectly safe. YOU CAN'T DIE FROM ICE SKATING!!!!!

5 inches is thick enough to skate on safely...maybe 6 inches if you are playing hockey. Check the ice depth with a drill in numerous spots because thickness can vary.

Probably about 5' - 10' depending on your height. But I could imagine you'd have a hard time moving in ice. I think you might die trying this actually.

Unsupported ice should be at least 10 centimetres (4 inches); supported ice such as that in artificial rinks can be much less, as little as 1 centimetre (1/2 inch)

Skating on a pond does not sound very safe. The wheels will slide on the ice and you will fall. Try skate boarding in a skate park or on the side walk. Also wear a safety helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and all that good stuff. It will protect you if youI fall. If you SKATE on a pond make shore that the ice is very very thick!
