Tandem skydiving in Southern California costs around $200. It's a little more expensive if you get video of your jump BUT IT'S WORTH IT! Especially if you don't jump often, the video is a great way to memorialize your skydiving experience!
That varies a lot from dropzone to dropzone. Some are not full-time and some instructors only work weekends. It is fair to say that the majority of skydiving instructors are part-time. Making a decent wage as a skydiving instructor is not easy.
Skydiving is a great feeling and very much unlike a roller coaster. There is a gently sensation of floating. Yes you are going fast (around 120mph), but when strapped to a tandem instructor, it feels safe. This experience lasts for approximately 45 seconds before you feel a sudden deceleration as the instructor opens the parachute at around 5000ft. I thoroughly recommend sky diving as a fantastic adrenaline filled adventure.
Around 13,000 ft for a tandem jump and about 3,500 ft for a static line jump but more experienced skydivers can go much higher.
At Skydive Miami, a tandem skydive is $229. For experienced skydivers, a jump ticket is $25 going to 13500 ft. If you would like a video it costs $79.
Becoming a skydiving instructor requires much dedication and initial financial input. Typically, an accelerated freefall (AFF) instructor in the UK will be required to complete a minimum of 800 descents first. With hard work and commitment, an individual can become an instructor within 3 years. This requires a lot of time and money to be spent.
Parachuting is a part of skydiving and most people do a Tandem Skydiving Course for their first jump. This costs around £240 in the UK. The highest altitude of 15000ft can be found at Skydive Hibaldstow which is near to Leeds, Sheffield and Hull. This gives you a freefall time of around a minute and is a great introduction to the sport.
It varies based on experience, really. If you have your level 8, you can look to pay about £20 for a jump, assuming you provide your own gear. If you don't, you're looking at a tandem at about £200.
Tandem and AFF instructors typically are paid $30 to $35 a jump. If Florida with a year round season, instructors can make 1000 to 1,500 jumps a year, so on the low end for a full time instructor in Florida $30,000, on the high end $50,000. There are also part time guys who maintain a day job (so they can afford to eat indoors), then work on the weekends. Again it depends on how many working jumps he does.
If you are looking to just make one tandem jump then you are looking at about $200 for the jump and $50 to $100 for video. The prices are different at different drop zones and you will have to find out from them for the actual cost.
Indoor skydiving is currently not available.
The pilot will usually slow down the aircraft as much as possible when the skydivers jump out. This makes it easier to jump out and reduces the chance of someone hitting the tailplane as the plane is pointing slightly downwards. On small aircraft, the speed will probably be between 70 and 100mph.
