a surfer will always get at least 3,000 dollars for each WCT event. but most money comes from endorsements like clothing lines which usually doesn't go over 80,000. but before you become professional you need to have a sponsor which will help for equipment and travel fees.

A used board ranges from free to too much but the average price for a new board in 2010 starts in the mid hundreds for a short board and goes all the way to $10000+ for a hand made wooden longboard.
