Surfing comes very easily to some and for some is extremely hard to learn. i am a bigger person, only 16 and 180 pounds and iv been surfing for not even a year, and i have already progressed onto a 6'3 fish, it depends how fit you are, and how badly you want to surf.

if you ask this question then you must seriously live no where near the ocean... surfboards can be anywhere from 4 or 5 feet to 10 or 15 feet, all depending on how, where, and when you surf. most pros or good surfers keep a "quiver" or a set of boards for different seasons and days, i have an 8' ft longboard for when its small, a 6'2 quad fish, for when its pretty big or when i just want to tear up some waves, and a 7'8 gun, for when its huge, like during storms.
