This all depends upon your age and maturity. Some men mature faster than others, so the size selection will always be an "individual" preference based on comfort and ease of use. Maybe start out with a medium size and go from there. *** Or you could just check your waist size and look at the size chart on the box. That will tell you which size to get. After all, the only difference in jockstrap sizes is the waistband. They are not like Bras, where they come in different cup sizes. The pouch is exactly the same size on all adult straps (of the same brand) whether they are small, medium, large, or whatever. The only time there are differnent size pouches is between adult and child sizes. And there are some companies that have come out with teen sizes that are between the child and adult sizes. But the pouches within each of those groups is ALWAYS the same regardless of the waist size. If you compare jockstraps from different companies you might see a difference in their pouches, but i don't know how much of a difference that would be.
boys small, medium, large
mens small, medium, large
peewee (4-7)
Jockstraps are sold based on waist measurement, so if your waist is, say, 30 inches, buy a size 30 jockstrap. Jocks are often sold simply as small, medium, and large--this refers to your waist.
The actual pouch doesn't really vary much since the pouch is made of very stretchy, flexible material. That said, different brands are cut or designed differently, so you might try different brands to find one that's comfortable for you.
It's a bit of joke with the lady clerks in sports shops.
Guys come in to buy a jockstrap or protective cup and opt for the large or extra large figuring the size relates to the "equipment" holding capacity. It actually refers to the waist size.
Buy the same size as you would underwear.
Athletes are often called jocks, derived from the fact they wear jockstraps

There are a number of different places online for someone to find out what size they wear. They could try Sizinator, a site that takes a persons measurements and lets them know the size they will wear in different brands.

Jockstraps are sized by waist, so you could measure yourself, or match it up with your pants or underwear size. There are also different size lines for youth, sometimes teen, and adult - the youth and teen models have smaller cups or pouches to better support less developed guys before or during puberty.
All male cricketers wear jockstraps to hold the box.Is a "box" what we call a "cup" in America? You should really ask that as a separate question; I believe they are the same - they both protect the male genitals.
