You will need to take a first jump skydiving course. This can be either an AFF or a Static Line course. After this, you must slowly progress building up your canopy and freefall experience.

To become a Static Line instructor in the UK, you need a minimum of 200 descents. For AFF, it is 800. Be aware that being a skydiving instructor is hard long work and it does not pay particularly well. Sometimes it is not as glamerous as it sounds!

However, that said, many choose this life as a career and have a great enjoyable career.

There are different type of skydiving courses and therefore skydiving instructors. For a Category System Instructor (CSI), you need 200 skydives, an FAI C-certificate and have passed the 2 part instructional course. To be an Accelerated Freefall Instructor, you need 1000 skydives, an FAI D-certificate and have passed an equivalent 2 part instructional course.

Most skydiving requires a tandem jump - meaning with a trainer or professional. A training session with a license professional is required by law before any skydiving. When you decide to skydive, you'll be presented with liability forms, training requirements, etc. You also must fit within the weight restraints.
