I think it's easy to teach children.We can teach swimming to the children by having some patience.We should first teach them in two feet water,It's because they ae not gonna be scared.teach them as if you are their best friend,I mean teach them in a funny way and making them laugh!So they are gonna learn fast.Then aftre some time take them in three feet water and be with them in the water so that they are not scared and are gonna feel safe!!And also apreciate them at every movement so that they will get some encouragement!Then after some time take them in deep or then it's your choice but I am sure they will learn to swim in a few months and will be the best swimmer!
Buy the book Total Immersion, and practice, practice, practice. Notice I did not say swim, swim, swim. You need to practice performing each technique perfectly. Swimming all day without doing it properly will make you a horrible swimmer with a good cardiovascular system. Of course this is all in the presence of a lifeguard, or a swim buddy.
