there are two main ways to do solo synchronized swimming. the first is just as a solo routine. you do this the same way you do a normal synchro routine except without the lifts. it is still just as hard because you are marked also on your interpretation of the music through your moves. the other way is to take part in a figures competition which is like showing positions in Ballet.there will be a list of moves/positions that you have to learn before hand. you are marked on your ability and posture and height. there is no music.

Joining a team doesn't have prequisits. However, certain meets do.
There are differentl levels of non-international meets: association (teams in your area - usually in the same state), regional (can include multiple states), zone (four of these in the country), and of course national.
To qualify for zone meets or the US Nationals, there is usually a minimum score you need to achieve for that event withing the last two years. Based on the level of the meet, that can be really hard. To qualify for regional meets you need to place top three in the previous association meet, and the top three in regionals go to the Esynchro National Championship.
