Agility is needed for swimming because it improves your reaction time, your balance and co-ordination.

No, because gravity feels like nothing in water and has very little effect on you.

Mainly so you can float but also so you don't get swimmers ear or imbalanced pressure when you got to low depths of 12 or 13 feet.
