Wooden skimboards float but cannot ride on waves well because they do not float well with people on them, for that u would have to buy a fiberglass or a carbon skimboard. Some good sites to check that I use are; www.exileskimboards.com, www.zapskimboards.com, www.victoriaskimboards.com, or www.skimonline.com. But if you aren't that serious about skimming and just want to keep your wooden one, just stick to wet sand and the shallows brah.

What are skimboards made of?

Skimboards are typically made from materials such as wood, fiberglass, or foam. Wooden skimboards are often crafted from layers of plywood for durability, while fiberglass boards feature a foam core wrapped in fiberglass for a lightweight and sturdy design. Some advanced models use composite materials for enhanced performance and flexibility. The choice of material can affect the board's buoyancy, speed, and maneuverability.

Can you sit and float on a skimboard?

Yes, you can sit and float on a skimboard, especially in shallow water where the board can support your weight. However, skimboards are primarily designed for gliding over water and sand rather than for sitting. You might find it more challenging to maintain balance while sitting, as they are not as stable as traditional surfboards. It can be a fun experience, but it's not the intended use of a skimboard.

Do wooden skimboards skim faster than fiberglass skimboards?

If your ability is such that you are only good on wooden ones then yes but for most people fiberglass is faster. Both fiberglass and wooden boards suck, you should try either E-glass or Texilum boards, go to your local surf shop and ask if they have any Zap boards.
