Yes! Of course! Now it may be a bit uncomfortable for others if you wear a pad or nothing at all (but your bathing suit) because it is possible for blood to leak through the thing material. A tampon is ideal for swimming but it is possible to use a pad.

With a tampon, it is. On the swim team, I once swam without anything on my period (it was also a heavier day too), and in the pool, nothing showed, and everything was fine, but once I got out...it was dripping down my legs and UGH it was terrible! :P If you wear a tampon, however, it's totally fine and will save you embarassment, trust me! :)

im a competitive swimmer so I SO know what u are talking about!! personally I don't because im a scaredy cat lol. but some girls do because they use tampons. some of my friends will race and after their race they will go to the bathroom but im uncomfortable with that. if you are near the end of your period or its not a heavy flow you could swim and go to the bathroom but if you don't use tampons I don't suggest swimming with a heavy flow!
