The splitter is an effective pitch but requires a lot of practice. It is mostly a feel pitch and pitchers that try it will not see action on the ball the first couple times using it. To throw it, grip the pitch with your fingers outside of the 2 long seams. Use the same arm action as a fastball and you have to really focus on staying on top of the ball. You should feel the ball release on the inside of your fingers and as if your fingers are going around the ball. The ball probably wont dive at first but try and get a feel for the pitch and you have to be persistent with it. Pitch it down in the zone. I ususally have it finish in the dirt for a strike out pitch. Try and have the ball finish between the catchers knees and the dirt. Good luck throwing it, I'm a college pitcher and its been my dominant pitch.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
