How do you get your horse to race on harvest moon DS?

Yes. There is a Horse Racing mini game.

Befriend Katy to five hearts and speak with her while she is at Brownie Ranch early in the day. You should get the cut scene where she challenges you to a Horse Race.

That will unlock the Horse Race mini game and you can play it as many times as you want by selecting "Mini Games" while at the title screen.

There are no horse races on the d.s. version only on the Gamecube version Magical Melody.

First, get kathy a 5-star heart then go to Brownie ranch go behind the shop and you will see Kathy and she will ask you to race her [you need to have a full grown horse.]
