The first to build towns in the Colorado Rockies were primarily European settlers and miners during the mid to late 19th century, particularly during the Colorado Gold Rush starting in 1858. Notable towns such as Central City and Leadville emerged as mining hubs. These settlements were established to support the burgeoning mining industry, attracting a diverse population seeking fortune in the mountains.

I searched for a list of Colorado town populations and found it is easier to count the towns with populations OVER 20,000. According to information gathered in 2010, there are only 32 towns in Colorado with populations OVER 20,000. Presumably all towns in Colorado other than those 32 have populations less than 20,000.
