Massa's engine didn't fail at the 2008 Singapore GP. He finished the race in 13th place 35 seconds behind 'winner' Fernando Alonzo. Singapore was the race that Massa sat on pole and was leading at the time of Nelson Piquet Jr's accident on lap 14 that brought out the safety car. Massa boxed for fuel and tires but his lollypop light system malfunctioned and told him he could leave before the fuel hose was unattached. The hose was ripped out and he dragged it down to the end of pit lane where he sat for approximately 90 seconds before members of his crew could get to him and unattach it.

But, in the 2008 Hungarian GP, Massa's engine blew up on the main straight with 3 laps to go with him holding a comfortable lead over second place, and eventual winner, Heikki Kovalainen of McLaren. Massa led 60 laps in the race but wound up finishing in 17th place.
