Beijing is the real name for the capital city of China. 'Peking' is the British form because of their poor chinese back in history. (I revise you, don't go walking around Chinese people and speaking about Beijing and calling it Peking instead. Some Chinese people either get offended or really irritated by this.)
It used to be called Peking, meaning northern plateau. Now it is Beijing, meaning Northern capital. (and yes, there is a city named southern capital too.)
The city named, "Beijing" is located in the country of China. "Beijing" used to be, "Peking".

# Beijing,
The modern name of Peking, China is Beijing, China. It was formerly known as Peking due to the way the Chinese alphabet was being translated at the time.
No. Peking was the old name of Beijing. That's why on very old maps and globes it says Peking instead of Beijing.
Beijing, a capital city of China, was initially referred as Peking (meaning Northern Capital) so as to distinguish it from Nanjing (Southern Capital). Prior to 1958, the government of Chinese used the Wade-Giles system to translate Chinese characters and symbols into the Roman alphabet. However, after 1958 the Chinese government switched to the pinyin system of translation, so the name Peking (Wade-Giles system) was translated to Beijing (Pinyin System).
