By not thinking about the situation in front of them, probably if they decided to just focus on what way they think the goalkeeper is moving before hitting the ball with pace with as much accuracy as possible and with no thoughts about what if I miss, etc. I guess to block out the crowd, the situation, the negative thoughts that could come and just believe in their own ability that this is a great chance to score and to do it.

However, maybe other international teams are just much more confident in their own ability and skills that it takes over any feelings of doubt in their minds until they actually miss a penalty. Whereas maybe English Players who are less confident have those doubts when they step up to take penalties and makes them more likely to miss. However, maybe this is all crap I'm saying and its just down to pure luck.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
