All events were held in Melbourne, Australia with the minor exception of Stockholm, Sweden where the equestrian events were held. Unfortunately, at the time of the Melbourne Olympics, Australia had extremely strict quarantine laws and regulations that prohibited bringing any foreign animals into Australia. This endangered Melbourne's nomination to host the Olympics at the time, because the Games charter (set of rules) specified that "all sports had to be held in the country selected to host the Games", but the IOC (International Olympic Committee fortunately allowed the equestrian events to be held in Sweden. It is my belief that this is still the only occurrence of an Olympic event being held outside the host city/country (don't hold me to this...I admit I may be incorrect).
