One of the most historically interesting mountains in found in the Ağrı region of Turkey, Ağrı Dağı (in Turkish, Mountain of Pain) also know as Mt. Ararat is widely thought to be the most likely landing site of Noah's ark and has been the site of continued archaeological study. It was also the center of the ancient Armenian civilization. Another historically important mountain is Nemrut (in English, Nimrod) Mountain in southeastern Turkey, which is home to huge ruins of an ancient tomb built in 62 BC as well as damaged parts of statues which once stood 8 meters high. Also important is Uludağ, located in Bursa, famous throughout Turkey for its skiing opportunities as well as it's water. The southern part has the Taurus Mountains. Taurus Mountains (Turkish: Toros Dağları) are a mountain complex in southern Turkey, from which the Euphrates and Tigris descend. It divides the Mediterranean coastal region of southern Turkey from the central Anatolian Plateau.
