Answer

Currently, scientists think that there are other worlds besides ours, but they are too far away and/or unreachable.

Answer

The existence of extrasolar planets (those orbiting other stars) is now proven. The question still remains as to how soon we'll be able to detect planets the approximate mass of Earth, around another star's habitable (having the right temperature for liquid water) zone. Guesses range from another decade to at least another century.

Then there'll be the task of determining whether any of those planets are actually capable of supporting life. Unfortunately, that level of technology doesn't look like it will be achieved during our lifetime.
