This is a subjective answer - the important thing is to get a quality table and get it set up by a qualified professional. Any table sold with 1.5 inch slate you can be certain is a well manufactured table. However, the much more common 1 inch slate tables you generally are getting what you pay for. Although Brunswick is the biggest name in pool tables, you can get a high end table from another that costs less and is just as good as the Brunswick.

In order to be considered a good pool table, the table should meet the minimum requirements for BCA equipment standards. This means 8 to 9 foot with at least a 1 inch thick slate surface. All the major brand names that make 9 foot slate tables have good tables, and can be 8 foot as well. Brunswick, Connelly, Gabriel, Olhausen, and many others are quality tables, including table such as Gandy that are no longer made.
So far the best tables i have come across from the construction to the prices, and options Olhausen is the best by far.
