There are several ways to play 8 ball. The 8 ball is all black. Balls 1 through 7 are solid colors. Balls 9 through 15 are striped colors. One person has solids the other has stripes. The person who has solids breaks. If a solid colored ball goes into a pocket, he goes again. If not the person with stripes goes. In one version a person has to call the ball and the pocket and hit the balls in a particular order. He says something like, "The 11 ball will hit the 15 ball and put it into this side pocket." Then if he is good, the person hits the 11 ball with the white ball and it hits the 15 ball into the correct side pocket. The person with stripes keeps going until he scratches. A scratch occurs when he accidently hits the white or cue ball into a pocket or he misses a shot. Then the person with solids takes over. If a player at any time knocks the 8 ball into a pocket while he has any of his balls still on the table, he loses. When all of a players balls have been knocked into pockets, then he tries to knock the 8 ball into a pocket. He has to call the 8 ball and the pocket. If he does not hit the 8 ball, he loses. If he knocks the 8 ball into the wrong pocket he loses. If the cue ball goes into a pocket, he loses. If the 8 ball goes into the pocket he called, he wins!
The 8 ball has no special function in any game of pool except the game of 8 ball. The first person to legally pocket the 8 ball is the winner of the game. If a person commits a foul that results in the 8 ball leaving the table or being pocket, it means loss of game for that player under most 8 Ball rules.
8 Ball begins with racking the balls and a lag for break. The lag winner strikes the cue ball with the cue to contact one of the front balls in the rack. Players then alternate turns with one player pocketing striped balls, the other solids, by hitting the cue ball into them with the pool cue. After a player has pocketed all his/her balls (1 through 7 or 9 through 15) the 8 ball becomes the new target. First person to pocket the 8 ball wins.
This is an over simplification, as there are many rules that must be followed during play. See the link below for the full set of APA rules governing 8 ball -
an eight ball usually goes for around $170 - $200. Are they talking about an eight ball - dope (i.e. crack?) or an eight ball in pool? An eight ball in dope was about $150 - $175. I have NO idea how much a pool eight ball is.
eight ball
There are many pool games that can be played on a pool table. Some pool table games include eight-ball, nine-ball, three-ball, one-pocket, and bank pool.
Pool
The expression comes from the pool-table. In some forms of pool, sinking or even touching the eight-ball is tabu except in end play. To be "behind the eight ball" is to be unable to play without disturbing the eight-ball, and thus the expression means "unable to do anything without getting in trouble."
It's called a foul
If someone in a game of straight pool hits another person's ball and then hits the eight ball into the pocket, they do not win the game. In order to win in pool, you must be the first to get all of your balls into the pockets, and you must also get the eight ball into a pocket without touching another person's ball.
Eight ball tattoos have many meanings, depending on the persons intent behind it. It could stand for a very good player of pool, or it could stand for an eight ball of cocaine (1/8 ounce)
If it is called to go in that way or if you are playing APA pool it would be acceptable.
Whoever sinks the 8 ball wins as long as it is in the correctly called pocked and the shooter does not scratch. No points per ball in 8 ball.
