Endgame The final move in Chess has no name per se. Many times a game ends with a checkmate, so "checkmate" can be considered in most but not all cases as the final move. However, some games end when a player loses by running out of time. Some games end in a stalemate or a draw. A draw can be by rule or by agreement. In in any of those situations, the last move is not a checkmate, therefore you cannot say the last move is called a checkmate. As far as "endgame" goes, that term refers to the last of the three stages of a chess game. The first two are the opening and middle game. The endgame cannot be defined with any specific description. However, many times a game may be said to be in the "endgame" stage after the queens have been taken off the board. Even this is not always the case. If the queens have been traded off early in the game with most other pieces still on the board, the game is still in the middle game stage.

It really depends on what opening you want to play/ what your style is but i reccoment e4 or d4 because i favor the Ruy Lopez and the Queen's Gambit. Go on chessgames.com and look the openings up and follow them there are some really good games on that site. ===================== There are at least a hundred popular openings, or variations, that have been given names and are well known to regular chess players. Check out your local library or a good bookstore for a beginner's book on how to play chess. An 'opening' generally lasts the first 10-12 moves. The object of your opening should be to (a) develop your pieces strategically (and not move a piece more than once), (b) castle, and (c) occupy or control the four squares in the middle of the board, and the twelve squares around them. (Of course, your opponent has the same goals, and that's when the fun starts.)

  • Generally, the most popular opening move is pawn to e4. (i.e. The pawn in front of the king moves two spaces ahead.) This gives white control of the center and allows him to develop the king's bishop and queen.

Indeed pawn to k4 is probably the most common first move, followed by pawn to q4. Kings knight to B3 is also a common opening move.

Many players prefer to start by either moving their King's pawn or their Queen's pawn two spaces. Both are strong opening moves, and it is really just personal preference when it comes to choosing which one you want to start with.

After your pawn in chess reaches the end can you move an extra space to save yourself?

It appears that you are asking if it is legal in chess to exchange your pawn for another piece, and then, in that same turn, move that piece. If that is your question, then the answer is no. The turn ends when the you advance the pawn to the final rank. You don't get to move it until your next turn.
